Visitors to KonCANi 2006 were
overwhelmed by how the two large panels on either side of the
stage in Hamilton Place had completely transformed the Hamilton
Convention Center into a very ethnic Indian & Konkani venue.
The two large 10ft tall color
panels (see images above) were breathtaking and it was difficult to say
whether they were projected or printed on the screens.
These panels, the sculptures in
the art exhibition room, the colorful Indian themed place mats
on the dining table and the beautiful centerpieces on each
table were all the work of Sadanand Benegal, a long time
resident of Toronto and a many time Past President of the
Konkani Association of Ontario.

Sadanand (see photo below) comes from a
distinguished famous family of artists who were very creative. He and his wife Mukta have been
living in Toronto for several decades now where he has been
sculpting and painting. He has been actively involved in the
Konkani Association of Ontario and has been its President in
the past more than once. He worked for the Sammelan for many months in his
studios here, in spite of ill health, to create the art work.
We are gratified that his efforts were appreciated by KonCANi delegates.
